“So, Commodore,” said Rebecca later in her office. She’d summoned Griswald there after dinner for a talk. “What was that?”

“What was what, Ma’am?”

“I interrupted a private meal between you and an alien national, Commodore,” she said. “Is your presence in the Ambassador’s quarters…routine?”
