“At ease, Rebecca,” said Admiral Pace. “Have a seat.”
As she sat, she glanced over at Commodore Griswald in the chair next to hers and reflected again on the Commodore's awkward, temporary rank. The Space Force had resurrected the rank of Commodore because the isolation of space command put a lot more responsibility on captains in charge of multiple ships. Back home, records still listed Griswald as a Captain, but with the size of the fleet under his command, he deserved to be an Admiral, or at least she’d thought so before reading about what he had done at the Battle of Goultara. Now she considered busting him down to a hydroponics gardener.
