“So, after getting the message from Gary, I booked a flight and came here,” said Carl. “But I found that Sherry had already left home.”

Carl and Helona walked down the quiet, empty street toward his car, holding hands.

“Yeah, that was my doing,” said Helona. “I went to visit Sherry, and she was a basket case; her house was in a horrible mess, and she and the baby were living in the walk-in closet.”
