Beads of sweat dripped from Captain Truncketh’s forehead.

She glanced up quickly at the open hatch to her small escape pod. Before he'd left, Steve had started the power-up sequence on the pod to give her the best chance he could. She did the math in her head to figure out how to make it to the pod and jettison it before it could get gobbled up with the rest of the ship.

Can’t worry about that yet, she thought. Her lack of control over the anomaly, or hyperspace bubble, or whatever it was, threatened the lives of everyone, not just her.

“Steady as she goes, Captain,” said Steve over her earpiece.
