Gary heard the door open behind him and turned to see Helona standing in the kitchen doorway. Her hair had finally grown out enough that she could braid it a little down each side, and somewhere in her travels she had found her regular clothes…even the feather that she liked to wear in her hair. The blood on them from the Battle of Goultara had been partly washed off, and all the bullet holes skillfully repaired. She held a spear that she’d obviously made, and some kind of alien weapon hung from her hip.
“You’ve been gone for weeks,” he said, returning to the slop that they had learned to call breakfast.
She closed the door behind her, then walked over to the cupboards and opened one of them.
“You moved the bowls,” she said.
